SAN DIEGO – The first novel by accomplished local author and screenplay writer Mark Fiorito is being released this month. “THE RUN” is an action-packed, fast moving story about American heroes and Mexican drug runners crossing swords south of the border.

San Diego firefighters Jimmy Dodd and Marty McLennan plan an overnight excursion to the seaport town of Ensenada, Mexico for a good time. Jimmy’s delinquent cousin Sonny Gabriel comes along for the ride. Suddenly, the trip spins horribly out of control when they accidentally kill the ruthless enforcer and brother of the head of a powerful drug cartel. The Americans are forced to make “The Run” of their lives in an attempt to reach the safety of the U.S. border.

Each chapter ratchets up the stakes as the firefighters race through a series of deadly gauntlets, vengeful cartel soldiers, corrupt policemen, honorable law enforcement and unforeseen detours as they aim to get apprehended by the American authorities before they are caught or killed inside Mexico’s borders.

Good storytelling is about uncommon twists and the stoking of the unexpected in proven formats. Fictional characters are often portrayed heading for Mexico or somewhere else foreign to elude capture here in the U.S. yet rarely are American protagonists running for the security and protection of home. This is the unique premise of “THE RUN”. It’s about loyalty and family.

The 356-page edge-of-your-seat fictional crime story, “THE RUN”, is available through Amazon.com; BarnesandNoble.com; Wheatmark.com/bookstore and local independent bookstores (Wheatmark/$25.95).
